Basic swimming ability is a fundamental requirement in any
meaningful attempt to eliminate drowning in Canada.
The Lifesaving Society offers training programs from
learn-to-swim through advanced lifesaving, lifeguarding and
leadership. Contact your local municipal pool, Y, summer
camp, school, college or university.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation says Automated External
Defibrillators (AEDs), when introduced into a strong community or
workplace system for responding to cardiac arrest, can save the
lives of 30% or more of the 35-40,000 Canadians who die of sudden
cardiac arrest every year.
